Can a moderator erase a post? Yes he can and has , I am going to give it a rest for awhile , too many adversaries. l will be getting back to doing what I do best, setting records with the most powerful Vincent ever built. Should all be interesting reading in my book

Hi Max

Yes, our forum moderators can edit posts, and although not all these meanings apply in this case, their role is to "make or become less extreme, intense, rigorous, or violent".

The ability for 'regular' users to edit their posts has been disabled, as it was generally thought Club Members/Forum Users should be responsible and mature to moderate their own posts, before clicking on the 'Post Reply' button.

I hope this helps.

Graham

That's a shame. I do feel Max has something to add to the forum, but like a lot of larger than life characters he has difficulty adjusting to life with "ordinary" club members. Hopefully he'll return and comply with the written and unwritten rules that keep this forum a pleasant friendly place to visit (and give the moderators a rest :)) .

In the absence of a spell checker/grammar checker, it is normally typographical errors I wish to edit.
I have typed out several posts in this reply box then decided not to post as some contributor have been so adversarial. This unsent post then remains in the reply box as the lack of editing seems to prevent its deletion.

I have noticed that there has been a reduction in "ordinary" member discussions and postings since the forum became a battleground.
Max is, I think, the third previously famous Vincent specialist to announce that they are storming off in high dudgeon, because the forum has not changed to accept or accomodate them.
New postings today seem to be up to a pre-Max level. Is this a co-incidence?

I manage to catch most typograpical errors with my spell checker but as soon as I press send I see a punctuation error.
Those of us who spent time on Jtan have I am sure had a few de-ja-vu moments recently. Oh well "onwards and upwards" as the piston said to the conrod

I must say, other forums I visit allow one to edit; having fat fingers, yet a desire to type things properly, it's a touch frustrating not being able to correct my keyboard calamities!!

The inability to edit words like "there" that the forum sometimes randomly changes to "their" when my posts are uploaded is frustrating, but overall it's not much of an issue for me. If you click on 'More Options...' at the bottom of the box when typing a reply, the next page has a 'Preview' button at the bottom. Unfortunately, this won't catch the "too/two" kinds of mistakes that only appear when it's too late to fix them.

But, especially when extracting text to quote, as I've done with this one, it lets me catch when I've accidentally deleted all or part of the '[/quote]' block. Or, in this case, to make sure that using that block all by itself as in the previous sentence doesn't cause some overall formatting malfunction. Also, it is helpful to Preview when using bold, italics, and underlines to make sure things look as I thought they would look. Anyway, for me at least, routinely using 'Preview' slows the process down just enough to (usually) keep from making really glaring mistakes.

...that keep this forum a pleasant friendly place to visit (and give the moderators a rest :)) .
The past couple of days highlighted to me that I have enough stress and unpleasantness in my life that I have little or no control over, and the reason I read and write about motorcycle topics is as a way to get away from that for a while. Unfortunately, there always are going to be people who seek attention by acting out, and it only takes one to do real damage to the ambiance (think of being in a fantastic restaurant, but with a guy loudly talking on his mobile phone at the next table). For this reason, I am personally grateful to the long-suffering moderators who do what they do to keep the VOC forum a pleasant, friendly place to visit.

I would storm off if it werent for the following;...
Face it, it's 97-deg. below zero in Canada right now, you don't have a snowplow for your Girdraulics, and the 50W that flowed so nicely into the UFM last August will be holding your crankshaft in a death grip until spring, so you're stuck with us. Besides, just think of our plight if deprived of adult supervision.
