What is the recommended way of cleaning the steering damper friction plates clean of oil and grease residues?

Degrease `em. I`m not being funny, just degrease `em.

I wouldn't use Kero as it leaves an oily residue; or if you do use kero then wash afterwards in a water based solution such as organic orange or similar. I usually use petrol :-(

Thanks for the advise - I ended up usng a citrus based degreasing detergent - worked a treat!
