When first turning the engine over, would it not be a good idea to drain the return pipe oil into a container, and watch to see how clean the oil is? When you see that it returns clean, then reconnect the pipe to the oil tank. That allows the recirculation to stay clean for longer.

You could but it is a real PITA to seal that return pipe banjo if it is oily. In reality you are looking at less than 50ml of oil. If you have fresh oil in the tank, sump and oil filter then except for the OCD people that should be good enough.

It may be in Know Thy Beast, but the oil filter can be filled more by squirting with an oil can through the right hand side banjo bolt opening, with the bike on the left side prop stand.

Apart from all the sage advice about oil circulation, to which I would add removing the timing cover banjo bolt A22/1 and squirting oil through to the filter chamber with the machine leaned over hard to the left: I would check that the front forks at least move when the handlebars are pumped up and down with the brake OFF. Drain the carburettors and check the entire fuel system. The front tyre (or tire) looks worn and may have hardened off with age. Also, in passing, the original pressure recommendations for tyres are too low for modern rubber. Please do a lot of reading and get a lot of advice or you will be unjustifiable disappointed with a beautifully designed machine.
