SL ^ is a piece of fibreglass, bonded into the main shell which is there to act as a preventer of dirt etc being thrown forwards off the rear wheel and forwards onto the rear carb and cylinder. ET29 As is the hinge for the front end of the 'D' saddle. Regarding using the rear plates for a mount. What are you going to do about clearance on the silencer?
There are two of the FT 287s, one each side. There is one each of the (Davidd's reply just came in) FT286 and FT 286/1 One (FT 286/1) just has a flat to clear the back of the clutch housing.
I found pictures I had of Sam's D series at Butlers Farm 2007. I now see the long hex nut on the right side and the trapped long hex nut on the left side to allow swing arm secure.
Also the shouldered nuts on both sides to secure the D series rear frame.
I can't add much to this discussion except to answer "yes" to this question. I replaced the solid axles on my open D with C axles. They went straight on.
