Try flashing it's field. Disconnect both dyno wires, ground the F wire and touch the D wire to the fully charged battery for one second, that is also grounded to the bike. (F to grnd. >12 ohms/ D to grnd. >1.2 ohms)
Sometimes just cleaning terminals inside the headlamp, for example, can do wonders. Brushes?

Clean the commutator with some emery tape and some solvent on a rag and try that, use the rear stand and turn the engine over slowly by turning the back wheel with the bike in top gear, perhaps remove the spark plugs to help lessen the effort. It is a Miller 6 volt genny that will put out 12 volts using a 12 volt regulator. If this fails then look at the regulator....... Check all the electrical connections are good, even the terminals on the underside of the ammeter in the headlight shell............ Good luck.

Greg, use sand paper not emery tape (metal) on a commutator. Cheers, Steve

An electric start relying on a miller dynamo and a JG regulator .... you do need a big junk bin
Get yourself an Alton and regulator and a Pazon or a BTH magneto under a grand and money well spent

Not sure what options were available when the JG regulator was fitted.
The Lucas Rita works well though but would consider an Alton generator for more charge.
Starting to get more of an idea now.
Does the Alton fit where the magneto is?

Thanks
Alton looks like a good idea. I guess the new voltage regulator would need to repositioned
somewhere.
Would Lucas Rita + Alton work?
The Pazon ignition is quite expensive compared to Boyer Bransden which I've got on my BMW.

If you do Facebook there is an Alton page worth looking at.
The regulated supplied with your Alton alternator and fits neatly on top.
