Do you have a cylindrical object in the position noted in post #41? Your JG unit is only the regulator and the power is produced by whatever is wired to it.

Yes, it’s the 6v magneto.
YouTube vid here showing fitting a dynamo to a Rapide.
A magneto or HT unit is needed but unsure where this would go.

Where are you in Hertfordshire?
I could pop down to give some friendly advice this weekend if that works?

This is a simple site picture (not the right side)

This is the sort of page you will find in the parts manual.. buy some books
Doesn't Bens Motor look good in post above above! NB that is a twin BTH and the coils are mounted to fit under the mag cowl which is what the customer wanted I prefer them mounted high where the crash bar would fit

The picture you posted from the parts book is a Comet which is not what danno has. His bike is a twin and yes we know the difference etc but it could introduce more confusion into a discussion which already has plenty.

Thanks, that explains it.
Must be what the circled part here is on my Rapide.
I thought the one behind the rear cylinder was the magneto. Hadn’t noticed it above the oil filter.
Ok I get it all now.
Original 6v dynamo converted with the JG regulator to put out 12v
Original magneto with Rita ignition

sorry but your picture shows just a rita ignition unit, No magneto fitted to the bike. what you have is a bike with coil ignition sparked through coils controlled by the Lucas Rita electronic unit.

Ah ok then, thanks.
I’ll trace the HT leads back to locate the coils.

There’s a coil mounted on a bracket under the engine front in between the side stands. A red lead has detached whilst cleaning but should be able to locate where this goes.
The coil was caked in heavy oil and grime and it seems having wiring in this position makes it rather vulnerable.
