Now that would scare me, seems you picked a through hardening steel. Would you take this for conrods - not really. I´d be worried about cracking so my choice either a case hardening steel - but not case hardened, just for high tensile heat treated. Or any high tensile steel , have it heat treated and in last stage have the fork laser welded with high chrome material or even HSS like. There is only the fork end that requires hard surface so the rest better be just tough and crack proof.

Hi Vic the specs on K340. Says its the most toughest though hardening steel.
Wenn secondary hardned it is extremely tough.
The dlc coating needs a good backing, like the nitride.
That on its turn need backing also.
So indeed we could choose to carbonitride.
Yet we choose different.

The high revs will tell.

Trying to set up an old case with head on it.
Drive it with El motor and add a high speed camera And some sensors.

To act as a test unit.
Maybe the winter lock speeds it up.
