RH Insurance BE CAREFUL!

It seems that RH are prepared to listen to our concerns and below is the response.

Hi Peter,

As discussed, I’m delighted to confirm that RH has agreed to amend the existing garaging clause.

Currently, RH’s standard endorsement (applied by the scheme’s Insurer, ERS) requires motorcycles to be kept garaged when at home or the usual garaging address.

However, for the Vincent Owner’s Club’s members, ERS are happy to amend the garaging endorsement to state ‘motorcycles must be kept garaged between the hours of 10pm – 6am when kept at home or the usual garaging address’.

Members who are already insured with RH should request this amendment to their existing policy (if required) via email (rh@ers.com).

Alternatively, if Members are seeking a new business quote, it’s important they state they’re a member of the Vincent Owner’s Club and request the Underwriters to apply the ‘standard 10pm to 6am garaging clause’.

I am not in the VOC, Chris is, but I am in the VMCC. It keeps costs down.
RH just refused to agree to the garaging clause so I will have to never leave the Comet's side! Or am I not understanding the clause? No payout if it's not in the garage, correct?
I questioned why and the young man just said that it's because it's a specialist insurance for the high value and the attraction for the thief. So I said what about a £15,000 Harley and he said his pay grade stopped him from answering questions like that.
So if your MV, Harley, BMW has the lock ground off outside your house, not garaged, do they pay out? He couldn't answer that either.
Hagerty were £60 more expensive, Footman James were also more expensive and that was without breakdown cover.
Tracey.

Tracey, you are correct - not in the garage, then its not insured. But remember this applies to the home or garaging address only. You could of course halve the additional £60 by joining the VOC for about £30, staying with RH and enjoying the ‘standard 10pm to 6am garaging clause’ offered to VOC members! Simon has found an even better way in his next post!
It's great to see that RH responded positively to Peter's intervention, but conversely, disappointing that in reality they seem to be trying to still maintain the 24/7 home address garaging clause for most people. Firstly, why treat the VOC different to any other classic bike owner and secondly, how many VOC owners will read this particular forum and remember to ask for the interestingly termed ‘standard 10pm to 6am garaging clause’ to be added to their current policy or stipulate this when requesting a quote for renewal or new business.
Anyway, I feel I have fuelled this forum enough now and I am pleased that people have checked their insurers policy endorsments, become aware of some challenging restrictions applied and satisfied themselves where they stand and also that some VOC members will reap benefit form Peter's intervention.
Too late for me though, I chose an alternative insurer who not only wanted less money, but seems to be more straightforward to deal with.
Thank you for all your replies and constructive comments to the forum item I started.

For £6 for the year you could be a nominated member attached to Chris VOC membership. It gives you all the benefits of a full VOC member apart from you get no copy of MPH. You even get your own membership number. You could then tell RH that you are a VOC member and get the garage clause amended to what Peter has negotiated.

I asked RH about their garaging stipulations because most of the year my Prince is on our companies car park between the hours of 20.00 and 04.30 as i work nights and like to use it for work. They didn't seem to have a problem with it.
My RH policy excludes me using the Egli for commuting to and from work. However this exclusion doesn't apply to the cheaper bikes and was snuck in without me realising it had been done.

I still don't understand what the difference between outside your house and 500 metres away is. If I get a bike out and call for my mate who lives 450 metres away, he says come in for a cuppa and the bike disappears ie. they were watching with a van. I don't get a payout. Surely you're either insured or not insured?
Obviously it goes back in a locked and alarmed garage from 10pm to 6am or longer.
A tracker on every bike would be very expensive, so all you can do is chain it every time or refuse the cup of tea :)

I noticed the none of mine were covered for commuting on my RH policy, so I called them and they included it free of charge.
I don't particularly like dealing with people who offer you low as standard but then upgrade when asked, I'd much prefer that it is given up front. However RH has had consistent premiums for me year on year unlike others who give a good quote for new or returning customers but try to hike the premium on a renewal. Why penalise loyalty?
