Recommendation for cycle part finisher....

Morning all,
Over the winter I would like to have my headlamp shell re-finished. It has been done at some time in the past and not very well I think, doesn't really fit in with the rest of the bike.

Any recommendation on who I should send the shell to and what finish I should have applied - I'd like it nice, smooth, black and glossy. I'm not sure that powder coated actually gives the finish I'm looking for.

I'd like a recommendation of someone who can be trusted to do a good job in a reasonable turnaround time of 4-6 weeks.

Cheers

Do you want it stove enamelled?

If so C&G Finishes in Liverpool 0151 734 3088 - Gerry would be worth talking to.

Friendly and nice people to deal with, also seem to do a lot of Vincent work.

In answer to your query on preparation, yes they can do it if asked.

Being a relative new comer, I can say is the finish on the work they did for us seems excellent and we werent asking for concourse (which they can do).

Best advice is you should contact a couple of painters and see what's on offer.

Headlamp shell

If you gave it to BSB powder coaters in Scotland, who specialise in bikes and custom cars, you'd get it back with the finish you wanted. And any colour you want, including black...... From experience, industrial powder coaters do "gorilla painting" - it's not pretty, but it's very, very strong. While BSB may be inconveniently distant, the point is that you need to look for a powder coater who does the kind of work you want. Have a look through the bike mags, and don't overlook "custom specialists".

Thanks - I'll try Trevor

Thanks all - Scotland fine as I head up to see Mum and Dad not infrequently and there is always the post.

The headlamp shell is a bit annoying as you look down and see it as you are riding the bike and to the right and left of the ammeter it was nto prepared well before painting and you can see the marks of rubbing down on it, just annoys me.

Will they do the prep for me (I know that's extra) or do I have to wet and dry it, fill it etc myself first?

Not sure if he is still operating but James Tennant-Eyles is a man to talk to.
He has a degree in paint technology and an immense reputation for the highest quality work.
