Reassigning a V5 after death of owner

Hello all

Does anyone have any experience of transferring multiple V5s following the owner's death?

My Father passed away last week, leaving several registered in his name.

Can they stay in his name or do I have to transfer the lot to myself?

Thought I'd put this out there before calling the dreaded DVLA

Contact DVLA they have a bereavement department who are very helpful. If I remember they will want to see a copy of the death cert. I don't think they want probate as registration and ownership are separate issues.

When my Father passed a few years ago and we then sold his car as my mother doesn't drive the DVLA just said to get the new owner to sign the V5C and include a covering letter explaining the registered owner had passed. It all went through with no further questions asked.
