You don't really need to purchase an acorn HT nut, just hacksaw and file a standard one down to allow the mag-cowl to sit back further, that will not effect the threaded section, back in the day I had the knurled section cut right back to about 1/8 inch, as long as you can grip it with your fingers to tighten it into the brush holder you are good to go.

As I can't weld aluminium, it will be cheaper and easier to make a slightly longer tab with appropriate holes. VOC has the short acorn nut, but postage from UK to USA would be more that the part's cost so I will have to wait until a future order to get one. Thanks to all for the help in this puzzle.
