PR32 Plate - Finish?

At last, I am getting-on with the '50 Shadow restoration....

What was the original finish on the brass plate that holds the PR32 speedo gearbox to the brake-plate? Brass, Cadmium or Black Paint?

I have looked in various books - including 'Original Vincent' and can find all three options!

Bob Chantland's original C Black Shadow has black paint.
