Powder coating has its preferred applications and legion of adherents but in our situation with coveted an cossetted machines looses its advantages over conventional quality two pack when considering a several attributes: removal, polishing and patching.
Look to the fork blade post for removal challenges. Though extremely durable and long wearing, quality enamels quickly "pop off" with no slurry or mess using aircraft stripper when one has a notion to start over for a fresh finish. PC can be indeed polished but one most exercise the same care as once required for acrylic lacquers which were notorious for softening with any heat build in the buffing pad which resulted in finish clouding. Once you've broken the glaze on them with sanding/buffing though, it is extremely difficult to return them to their former gloss unlike painted enamel. You can consider it a one way trip if you have the misfortune to break through the surface while working an area. Whereas you can blend patch enamels very convincingly, basically you're relegated to just touching up any nicks with black paint on a brush with powder coat.
