petrol tank cap washer

For one, I want to get a standard petrol tank cap re-chromed and for two I want to replace the soft washer on a cap with good chrome. Either way I believe I will have to dismantle the cap, but it looks a bit like a Chinese puzzle ! with I imagine the head of a split pin protruding from the sheet metal dome under. Advise on "how to" would be welcome

Prise out the cork sealing washer. Then push the spring loaded diaphragm down and into the recess which is inside the knurled top edge. The opposite edge of the diaphragm should then rise high enough to be able to be withdrawn above the edge of the cap.

Or, wait for it, buy a new one from the club and advertise the old one as an original Vincent part on flea bay, probably get more for the old one than the new one will cost. They were a bought in item anyway, just a thought.............
