Mine is a 1953 Comet chassis with a 1950 twin engine, possibly someone thought of going from a single to a twin and just bought a 2nd hand engine. I bought a 1950 Comet 15 years ago with the intention of building a new twin engine for it but never got round to it as the one I now have came up at the right price.
Sold the Comet on.

The matching numbers fascination seems to have blossomed in the 90s.
It's no different than stamp collecting.
If you think of a rare stamp, it's face value is tiny and often expired, but it's collector value is huge.
To me it's just a useless bit of paper I don't want.
Those of us who just want to ride old bikes will never fully understand those that just want to possess and display them.
That said, my Vincent Special has matching numbers, everything is as it left the factory.
Unfortunately the numbers also match up with a U-Haul trailer in Ontario!
