I see Halfords have a Castrol Edge 10W/60 Sport synthetic for older or modified vehicles. Not cheap but an attractive idea.

Anyone know why not in the Vincent?

I am using their Classic 20/50 which looks and smells like Duckhams. It is SF/CC so would not build up ash deposit on your exhaust valve stem. At £19 for 5l it is also relatively cheap.

Castrol's web site does not list edge 10-60 as a bike oil. Being a synthetic it will contain a fair proportion of ptfe, I'm not convinced that it is compatible with our rolling element bearinged motors. As its your motor + wallet you must decide according. Harley engines are mostly similar, Freddie Warr reckoned to use g t x (if you can find some).

Yet Bob dun recomends fully synthetic for all of his ceramic lined cylinder barrel fitted twins, So who is wrong

Ok- it may suit the well over spec ceramic pistons/liners with particularly tight clearances, but only time will tell how the afore mentioned rolling element bottom end(the dear bit) will survive on an as yet unproven oil.

I pay nigh on 50 Euros for 5 litres of the stuff from Louis (43 quid!!!)
19 pounds sounds like a good deal.

I just use whatever is handiest. I'm not an expert but I really don't think there is a poor oil out there now. I just change it frequently at 1000 miles.

Hi Vince,
If you can get it Motul do a mineral 20/W50 called Motul 3000.
Costs arround £20 for 4 Litres, and is good stuff

The spec far exceeds the Halfrauds classic 20/W50

If you can't get that then Silkolene (Fuchs) do a 20/W50 for classics as well, which from memory is about £28 for 5 litres.

Maughan's recommend a straight Morris 40 which you can find at Kempton for £15 for five litres.
