In an exchange about automatic antisumping valves on another Vincent site, I posted the following.
Gentlemen,
I take a different view. It has been my experience that anything automatic that you depend on to work 100% of the time WON'T !! If this valve fails to open just once, you can expect to have major engine damages. And you cannot tell if it's not working till it's too late. That is, unless you check your return oil flow for longer than it takes for the pump to empty the engine sump, if the pressure side is dry..
I have taken another root. I have installed a ball valve in the pump feed line and combined my ignition switch next to it. The handle of the ball valve, in the cutoff position, covers my ignition switch making it imposable for me to start my Vincent with out turning on the oil valve. It's idiot proof, as I ride it all the time.
