Pity the guy who did my last rebore didn't have one!! When I cleaned the paint off the muffs last year two fins fell off with traces of Araldite on the break. :(

It may be needed for difficult cases, but mine have never needed more than a light tap on well supported spots on the muff and then only on the rear cylinder. Another area of Comet superiority!

Hi All, I am about to remove cylinder....so why is it so difficult that a jig is needed?

They don't always simply lift off, I guess a lot depends on what goop may have been used as a sealant around the base. Like Bruce, I've always been able to do the job with careful prying near the bosses around the cylinder bolts. But based on the number of times I have heard of broken fins, there are times when avoiding prying might be a good thing.
