IMG_5025.jpgHi all, while waiting to straighten the forks on my Comet (Vin content completed) I decided to strip down my '56 AJS 18S, I found what looks like a crack in the liner fitted to the barrel, it is approx half way down the barrel and completes a full circle.
Any ideas from the many learned and experienced folk here as to what may have caused this??

Any help appreciated

Kevin

Hi there Kev, It looks like corrosion marks left by the rings from siting for a while.....Greg.

Hi Greg, that was also my initial thought (hope) until I saw some irregularities in the lines, I assumed ring marks would be very regular?
I have sent you a couple more photo's

Take a light hone down the bore , even a Christmas tree hone might do , and see if it clears up , even partually . If so it's just a corrosion line as has been suggested . Wash all well in hot soapy water and carry on if such is the case and wear is light . Sid .
