Bruce, it is to allow for the wider swing arm, which needs the offset output sprocket to match......sitting in the middle of the swing arm.

Someone earlier in this thread mentioned that this kit may be a cheaper alternative to buying genuine upper and rear frames off of eBay. I am pretty sure this kit runs at about $15 K so I am not sure about that previous statement. However, when I last spoke to Terry about this kit, his thoughts were aiming more at builders who are building specials with larger capacity engines, that can take advantage of using modern forks, wheel/tires and brakes. I can see the merit in it..... But which part of being a Vincent is it really trying to achieve....Not unlike an Irving Vincent or a Britten I guess.

I think that it is there to allow the use of a much wider rear tyre which means that the chain has to be moved outwards and a longer output shaft to the final drive sprocket used. Very nice thinking if it is all Terry's design work.
