Back in late 1998 I was sent to Ft. Huachuca in southern Arizona to attend a class on the dynamics of international terrorism. One morning the instructor, a Staff Sergeant, came into class all annoyed. Alvarado Hall (a.k.a. the school house) was a straight shot down hill from on post married quarters. So this Staff Sergeant used to get on his bicycle and coast down hill to work. This particular morning he managed to get up to about 30 m.p.h. which was over that speed limit for the road. Well the MPs were at the bottom of the hill with a radar gun. He received a speeding ticket, totally destroyed his chances for N.C.O. of the quarter, cost him pay, and was going to be an issue when he went before the board for his promotion to Sergeant First Class.
