MoT exemption for 40-year-old vehicles

Ah, but it was already exempt Chris, assuming it was built before 1960. The new ruling, as of May 20, states that vehicles over 40 years old are now exempt assuming they are not modified.

I see that it still says MOT needed on my 1950 bikes, They must have a load of old forms.
The Lady said, " How would you like to pay ", I said, I wouldn't !.

And then scroll down to the pic of a primrose coloured car headlight and click on 'substantially changed' (2 lines below the pic) to see all the rules. Some of it excludes motorcycles - but as anticipated - it's not clear what is relevant and what isn't....

I see the article continues to refer to the registration date rather than the manufactured date which is what is enshrined in the legislation these simplified 'guides' issued by the nudge unit can be a mine field how can we or a copper get to the finer points without a lot of hassel

And what if your VHI bike is fitted with a sidecar made after 1988? Knowing the DVLA and sidecar rules, I doubt it will make a difference. Good luck to all.
