hi folks,
just fitting my ammeter to my headlight and wondering whether there should be an o ring between to ensure the paint is kept in better order and the overall fit better???

Certainly a good idea. I usually use a thin o-ring like that fitted to Mk1 Concentric carbs. It also acts to some extent as a shock absorber.
