That's why I use the rear footrests,
And turn the gear lever the other way round, One down and 3 up,
I move them a bit further forward,
Cheers Bill.

I had to weld an extra bit on the lever,
I only use one rear drum,
Or you could do it like the Grey Flash ?,
Only trouble is there is no room for someone on the back !.
Good Luck, Bill.

I have built something strange for my "D" Comet,
Not sure it will work, Not on the road yet,

What about staying standard foot rests and making the seat higher ?,
Won't look nice, " But Needs Must ! ".

I made these, the hangers are old Triumph (I think) kickstarts cut down, reshaped and tapered bosses welded on, these are 2" longer than the standard twin ones.

The brake pedal is made from an old tapered tube chair leg, it even had the bend in and is pivoted off a boss on the RFM spindle.

The positioning of the cable retains the original ratio.

I have a spare LH footrest hanger on the RH side of my Comet and I to used a couple of Triumph pillion foot rests to form fold up footrests though I found in use that I had to shorten the length of the peg & rubbers as they were just a tad too wide.
If you wanted lower footrests perhaps the folding portion could be cranked this could gain the space required?
I am also looking at a single rear brake system with one cable to the rear and loosing all the cross shafts and levers
