I think the crank case collects oil in the pocket behind the spindle and oil gets routed into the spindle drilling and thus into the bearing, no power feed required.

I never thought about what the U shaped boss was for before.

The same spindle is used for the intermediate idler in the Comet, which also has an oil collection provision in the pocket behind it to feed it.

Thanks for your reply. The reason for my curiosity is that a bit of galling has occurred between the steel wheel-bush and the spindle. Nothing really serious, but it required a bit of emery paper applied to the spindle and a new wheel-bush to put things right. No appreciable wear on the camshaft bushes, however. Again, thanks for your reply.

Is it really steel that is used for that bush ??? Cast iron could be acceptable but I´d prefer bronce any day.
