Hi,

I am 19 and looking for insurance for my Comet for the next 2 months. Unfortunately not many classic insurance companies want to insure me and the cheapest premium I have is £90 per month which seems too steep.

Any advice anyone?

Kind Regards,

Joe

Hello, hello, this post seems mighty familiar, I am 20, and this time last year I had the same problem, where about are you based?

Fancy a Vincent Rally for the under 25s? :D

I looked at Carrol Nash (£600), Footman James (refused), Bennetts (£750), norwich union and Devitt (Refused).

For Fixed millage under 1000 miles.

I went with Norwich Union in the end at £350 TPFF. It would have been cheaper but i chose to pay monthly rather than for the whole year, I cancled it after 2 months. Meaning I only paid around £150 to ride for the summer(after cancelation fees). I worked it out at approx 4 rides that works out at around £75 a trip plus petrol... So ask your self how much you want to ride a Vin?

Do I regret it? Hell no! would do it again this year if I hadn't spent all my money on bike parts (This time for a V tiwn.)! Riding at our age you will be really well recieved by any classic bikers.

I have since spoken to Footman james face to face, at a classic car show (race Retro) and was told, If I join the V.M.C.C and my bike is older than 15 years, I get comprehensive cover at unlimited millage no matter what my age for 12 months at £350.)

Also I told them my bike was locked with an Oxford lock and chain.

NB: It always makes me smile when you phone carrol nash for classic bike cover, as they are "experts" and the first 3 questions they ask me for my 1930s bike are 1)Is it standard? (They dont like modified bikes) 2) does it have an alarm, emobaliser or tracker? 3) Is it Turbo/twin turbo charged?
I mean I know Vincents were ahead of there time and all but its a bit optimistic....

Just for a laugh answer as follows , 1) , yes it is modified 2) yes , all three 3) Does supercharged count ?

Curious the way insurance companies plead poverty and they don't make money out of vehicle insurance but , how many insurance ad's are on TV

Carol Nash always ask me the same thing when I insure my Triton. I asked them what a standard Triton is. Their reply was "the same as when it left the factory"

Have had the misfortune to suffer all the above ! My advice is join a breakdown service such as the AA or RAC with the legal cover option.
They will then act on your behalf in the event of any insurance 'difficulty'.

Also , if difficulty is experienced with any 3rd party use an accident expenses recovery company. They will relentlessly pursue anybody or any company not responding to their liability. However , they will only act in third party blame accidents.
On one occasion I was taken out by some brain donor making an illegal right turn against me on a dual carriageway. Only my last second swerve to the left to avoid the clown and the Merc I was in saved me from serious injury. Problem was , despite several witnesses to my advantage the idiot tried to claim it was my fault to his insurance company and the case dragged it's feet. I engaged an accident claims recovery specialist and got hire car expenses , damages and loss of earnings within 3 weeks !
