The VMCC shop, tyre section, advertise a 300 x 20 inner tube for the Ensign Universal tyre at £14. I have no idea of the quality or where these are made but 300 x 20 tubes seem unavailable anywhere else at present, unless you know differently.

I have purchased tubes this size fairly recently from Tony Etheridge, vintage tyre specialist in Watford, 01923 231699, he does not answer the telephone at any time, you have to leave a message and he will return your call, but not to a mobile.

Hugo,

I bought them recently, Michelin I recall, from Charlie at Vintage Tyres of Beaulieu. I buy all my tyres from them - best quality and cheapest delivered to your door. I did quite a bot of searching before I landed on them. No connection to me, but highly recommended as cheapest and best, pretty quick too - which all in all is unusual.

No Tim,
Central Wheel fit 2.75 x 21 Continental tubes in 300 x 20 tyres!
They say it's OK and if there's nothing else available, what do you do?
I suppose Conti's may be better quality than an obscure brand.
Anyway, I've been using them for the last few years without any problems.
Paul.

The Lore of the Ancients (I suppose that's us now) is that if you can't get the right tube for your rim, you want a smaller one, not a bigger one, to avoid any risk of getting a fold in it before it is fully inflated.
One thing to be wary of is that trials tubes, available in "our" sizes, are lightweight, and the rubber used is perhaps better suited to "something for the weekend" than for regular road use (unless extra sensitivity is part of your riding requirements). I was lent one (for which I was very grateful) after a puncture, which got me home, but I was amazed by how flimsy it was compared to the one that had punctured.

I ordered a new front tyre, 3.00 x 20 Avon, from Watling Tyres, my "dealers of choice" today. (Fronts last me about 10,000 miles, rears - Roadrunners - about 4000. I've bought both road and race classic rubber from Watling and find them slick and knowledgeable. I particularly like the fact that they don't immediately ask what bike it's for, but make the gracious assumption that the customer actually knows what he wants.
Out of curiosity, bearing in mind this thread, I asked him if he had 3.00 x 20 tubes. No, he hadn't seen a 3.00 x 20 inner tube for 17 (sic) years. I should use one size smaller, 3.00 x 19.
No, I don't know why exactly 17 years either, but it sounds entirely plausible.

some years ago i fitted a 21" rim to avoid this problem but with this solution i am also not happy, the bike is to much up at the front. will go back to 20" rim again.
