My Comet has a damaged valve guide locking ring thread.

Does anyone know someone (preferably in the Midlands) who's good and quick to repair it?

Thanks Norm, I'm actually going up to that part of the world soon, so that's an option.

I've found a local company that are very good machinists, friend of a friend but not Vincent (or auto engineer) specialists, I'm going to chat with them, and maybe give them a try.

Hi
The exhaust valve guide on my Comet had pushed the ring out and was going up an down using the head as a valve guide. Bike still ran fine with a little rattle as the loose ring danced around on the valve.

Contacted Bob Culver at Letchworth on 01462 673705 and he made an oversized valve guide, machined the head to suit, made an oversized clamp ring and tapped the head to suit. He also changed the inlet valve guide which he thought was worn and cut the valve seats to suit the new guides.

This was about 3 years ago and cost me an amazing less than £100.

He has an excellent workshop and was even making big end assemblies for twins and repairing wrecked crankcases using his aluminium welding skills.

A very nice and talented man.
