I doubt very much that Francois will promote purchasing a Yamaha part from another source, and I also doubt that Yamaha would suffer from a bad batch of anything, that is why they, and the other big three eclipsed the British motorcycle industry back in the day, quality control etc.
It`s Trev who`s been making these gears for a long time now. The Yamaha gear became exorbitantly expensive.

I think you are getting confused, the round circlip is the one on the drive gear on the starter motor, that is there to captivate the pieces if the shear pin breaks. The one I`ve just given you details for is the one that locates the sprag clutch on to the gearbox mainshaft.
