H: Hubs, Wheels and Tyres General question...powdercoat removal from chrome rims?

I have a couple of rims which have had powder coat carriage stripes (center of rim, normally with red accent stripes) applied and I'd like to remove it. Anyone know of a good way of doing this without affecting the chrome? Also, could I get away, if using a chemical, with leaving the spokes in situ?

Powder coat is a plastic coat. So no chemical procedure will help much. I´d take a hot air gun and try that. You don´t need heat high enough that blues chrome.

I had some powder coating removed by my local chrome plater - they had a vat of a chemical that they soaked the parts in for 24 hours - came out a clean as. Cost was reasonable.

Not cheap and it stinks.... but it works. Wear gloves and keep a clear path to the sink.... it really stings. Best done outside. Proper respirator if used inside.
Can’t imagine it’ll bother the chrome, but you could ask them.
You’re lucky ... just down the road from you. It sucks getting it across the 49th.
