ESA Nuts - difference?

Its not just the nut but also the washer behind it, the number of springs, the use of a tab locking washer etc. The 'D' items are superior but you still do need to make sure that everything is tightened up or, despite the tab washer, it will still come undone.

I have not used it, but Neal Videan's re-design of the Series D ESA nut and springs seems to be an improvement. If you have watched a stock one work on a dyno, the springs are very weak and twist readily.

Dick Sherwin used the Neal Videan kit on his Knight solo and when it was taken apart it was clear that the spring pressure with all the springs is too high as there was no trace of any movement. When Dick fitted a heavy Russian made chair to the Knight after the engine had been bored out to 90 mm it seemed about right if three springs were left out. So solo Comet riders possibly should use the standard number of springs while twins need a few more. Dick will no doubt correct this if I have the numbers slightly wrong.
