All Good, got it sorted....Rule #1.... DO NOT FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS
When I followed instructions to the letter (multiple times) outcomes were nothing like mentioned in documentation.
Installation: EASY
Setup/Calibration: IMPOSSIBLE (if you follow instructions)

So - how should one calibrate this beast on a Comet with a magneto?

Been running the Skitsu revcounter on B-TH twins and single racers since they came out years ago,Fitting is just a few turns on the plug lead and tape it up-perhaps the ease of fitment is due to the various "colored" types you have to chose from
http://www.scitsu.co.uk/
although its charged from a battery via a plug I have never had one run down even at 3 day meetings my only complaint is that the rubber mounts perish but like most black rubber nowadays its c**p compared to 30 years ago

I used to have a BSA with a KROBER rev counter on it which was coupled to the magneto cut-out wire, it was adjustable for the number of cylinders, would this one do the same.

Dear Kevin,
Perhaps you could tell us what your difficulty was with the instructions and share your successful solution. This forum is a good place to share good information.

Hi Eddy, I did a lot of fiddling and cannot remember exactly what gave me the correct reading but I have all intentions of pulling all wiring apart again and redoing everything in the next couple of days.
I will document the lot and pass it on ASAP, would have done it by now except that I took the Comet on it's first LONG shakedown run on Sunday.
During the run with a few hundred other bikes (well...Harleys mostly) one of the rear guard stays snapped (made by one of the previous owners? out of Yoghurt) and this caused a catastrophic annihilation of my brand new F148 Rear Guard Blade, which fell against the tyre, shorted some wiring ......Blah, Blah, Blah ...Sh#t
I will say however that the Tacho performed beautifully (until power failure)
Regards
Kevin

Hi Martyn, my previous post (tonite)outlines what I am up to in this regard but, Calibrate is a misnomer (used in the setup instructions) it is really just a "selection" of the number of cylinders of the engine.
This is carried out in a particular sequence by powering up the tacho and then touching the "calibrate" wire to frame a number of times to get the required selection (that was the part that didn't work properly)
More to come.

Kevin

I have fitted one , 5 years ago , made by Dutch electronic specialist, electronic "smiths" rev counter fitted in an original smiths housing and it works perfect from day one.
Only the pick-up wire should be fitted in such a way that only spark from one sparkplug will be counted. Normally there is adjusting possible at the printed circuit board for fine tuning.
I am running digital smart fire 4 plug Pazon.

van Drenth JC
Hi Van Drenth, the current device sold by VOC spares has no internal adjustment that I know of and it requires a powered sensor (pulse pick up) sold separately, to be attached to a plug wire to operate correctly.

Kevin
