E: Engine Cylinder base o-ring source?

My liner/muff was machined by a previous owner to take an o-ring at the base where the liner exits the muff. This is intended, as I understand it, to prevent creeping of oil up between the liner and muff. The o-ring has perished and I wonder:

1) does this group feel this is a useful modification and, if so,
2) where can I find the correct o-ring (I believe I read somewhere that it may be a stock Honda item)?

Go for Viton material if possible. It withstands a higher temperature than the more common Nitrile material.
