This year’s ‘Classic Motorcycle Day’ at the Tramway village will be the fifth that the East Midlands Section have helped the Tramway run. The Tramway is in the Derbyshire village of Crich, about five miles south of Matlock. An idyllic setting for an event, overlooked by Crich Stand, the Sherwood Foresters Regimental Memorial, that overlooks the Derwent Valley and can be seen for miles around.

If you’ve never been before, you must. The event attracts around 300 motorcycles made up of vintage machines to relatively modern machines of the 1990s, all of which must be over 25 years old. The original concept was to stage a relaxed event for all makes and sizes of machines, where no make has precedent, and a proper biker’s event for bikers. So far, the feedback is that we have achieved that but equally important is that it has promoted a positive image of the Vincent H.R.D. Owners Club. The event has received widespread coverage in some of the leading classic motorcycle magazines, and the feedback we’ve received from those attending is always very positive. This year we have applied to the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for a flypast (3rd time lucky) which we have now been informed has been accepted and is in their diary for a Lancaster flypast, we’ve booked a live band to play at the bandstand and of course have numerous awards for the machines. The Best in Show Trophy is again being determined by a public vote, so if you do come, please vote. Last year we had two Vincents win, the Best British bike in Show went to Mick Ash and his Series 'C' Black Shadow, the best Vincent went to Simon Christian and his Norvin. We have judges from the VMCC, VJMC and some other great judges, including the editor of Old Bike Mart, who know their motorcycles. Entry to the event is free for all riders of their classic machines, which includes scooters. It also includes full access to the Tramway Museum and free Tram rides all day. All Vincent owners are welcome, the more the merrier, even if some of us arrive on a Matchless (unless there’s a minor miracle).
