crank case repair

I need information on the best alloy to use for a replacement patch on the chain case. Would 6061 T6 work , would it match when polished?

I would recomend speaking to Steve Hamel in the USA, who has repaired many sets of crankcases for people, and as he is on your side of the pond, he will be able to help :D

6061 T6 is not a welding rod. Use a magnesium rod. If you use 6061 as a replacement piece welded in on polishing it will be different, because that is an extruded material, being added to a casting.
