The small idler spindle/shaft is no longer an interference fit, you can feel hydraulic suction when you pull it.
I've read that there are oversize spindles, but what size is standard ?
Also, don's see oversize option offered by the spares co', any suggestions for best source.
Thanks

really that's the way?. Seems today is going to be a day of learning, ie shimming and adjusting large idler boss assembly, looks like rain anyway.
Also, from the drawings the part number isn't clear, can anyone confirm what it is.

I think Martyn told us to use a shim behind the CAM ?, the other day,
I never have, But maybe if the followers don't line up right ?.
I might have got it wrong ?.

It is my understanding that it is good practice to put a shim/thrust washer between ANY rotating component and the alloy case.

Better to err on the side of caution than risk eventual damage.

I agree Martyn, But the factory didn't do it, And I have done many Miles and Racing,
On a few Vincents, And never seen wear on the cases,
So although I am not a standard man, can't see the point in altering it,
Unless the followers don't line up !!.
Cheers Bill.

used the opportunity to check and shim all necessary pinions including replacing ali' large idler with the steel one I had waiting. Shimmed from behind as suggested.
The large ali' idler appeared to have more run out than the steel one but this may be due to wear or distortion in use, Alarmingly there were randomly chipped teeth but no signs of systematic stripping. A little light ali' paste in the nooks and crannies but at some point something hard has been minced.
