C: Clutch Comet cables

My clutch cable is 46 inches to get a better run over the handlebars is 55 inches about right still with the adjuster at top end.

What is the optimum length for a Comet clutch cable my measurement suggests 55 inches and should the adjuster be at the top or is it better placed towards the gearbox that is within 8 inches which would place it near the petrol pipe.
