But as the condom experiment proved with a pcv valve any air movement in or out of the engine under piston space ceases after a short while after start up so fitting a valve is the best way of cutting pumping effort and renders breather timing unnecessary or at best periferal
I agree - but This thread is about the Timed Breather

If you want a chat on PCV valves then their inlet should be as close as possible to the crankcase and the connection to their outlet should be run vertical for as far as possible. Of course PCV valves should be used alone - no other type of breather being used.

I have heard there is a way to improve the breather by opening the hole in the idler.Can somebody explain this?Erik
