Morning All,

Over 950 members - let's put a spurt on and get it over the 1000 to start with.

Why not send a link to people you know may be interested and see if they'd like to sign up.

The more people are involved and using it the better I say. With the right welcome we could find membership pushing upwards and more Vincents being put back into great condition.

Hi all !

Just joined, my subscription fee is dated 20th Feb 08. Riding my fathers Rapide C, 1953, hoping to take it to the meet in Norway this year. Have some thoughts about the rear tyre though, it is a fairly old, but not worn Avon SM MK II. The profile looks a bit funny to me, fairly square, is it supposed to be like that for solo riding ?

Welcome and beware old tyres.....

Hi and a very warm welcome to the VOC, and the Forum.

Great that another Vincent will be out and about on the road - hope that you find the Forum useful.

Tyres - beware old rubber - if you are thinking of using the bike and the tyres have been on for a while I'd suggest that it would be a good idea to contemplate replacing them.

There are a number of specialists in the UK that can help you out - if you need any contacts just ask.

If you are running standard rim sizes then you are slightly restricted in tyre choice - the Avon for the front is the usual choice and then there is a choice of two for the rear, either the Avon Safety Mileage (yes, a square profile) or Dunlop K70 which is what I have on at the moment paired with the Avon front. It has a slightly (only slightly) rounder profile.

I have been very pleased with the tyre choice - and no problems in cornering or handling. Remember that the rubber compound today will cope with higher pressures than originally recommended - I run mine 28 front and rear but lots will run them softer.

Remember it is these two contact patches between you and the road - and you rely on them, so if in doubt I would recommend changing them.

Happy riding, hope to meet up sometime, I'm off to the Manx GP this year.

joining today

filling form in today, thought it would be a good idea to join even though I live in south carolina and my vincent is a bit of a mongrel (terry prince frame and top end, molnar cases). It is fast though!:)

Great news - welcome

Terry Prince did the engine rebuild on my Rapide - he knows his stuff.

Hope you'll find the club is wide open to all interests linked to Vincents.

Cheers

Try this one

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-Tyres

They do postage free in the UK, but I am sure they would do something for you to get them to you.

I did a lot of internet checking and these guys were the cheapest, just by a £1 or so.

Excellent service, they have a lot more than what they have on the web, just ask them for what you need. They sell tubes and rim tapes too if you need.

Have a check on the Forum site for the tyres thread, Mick the Vin has just bought the replacement for the Roadrunner for the rear of his bike - it has a very rounded profile and looks like proper sports rubber - look at the avon.com web site for a picture.

Best of luck - keep us posted.

I think 'The Bay' is pretty good for buying and certainly for selling. Top whack for vincent spares.
