cam wear

I am currently in the process of going through the timing side of my basket case black shadow and have noted some degree of cam wear. The instruction sheets do address the formation of a small ridge on the periphery of cams due to cam followers not centered properly with the shims and state that the ridge may be "stoned off". My question is how much of a ridge (wear ) might be considered acceptable before the cam might be considered less than desirable for further use? Any thoughts in that will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello Charles, I would say don't take the risk, Some of the old cams were made of cheese !! If you have the money, Start out new, Cheers Bill.
