My advice, which please feel free to ignore, is to keep the rear frame that supports the seat. I know it is not standard and you say that you have parts to restore it to standard but try it first. I think that you will find it a lot more comfortable than the standard set up.

I agree with Norman 100%, I have had it explained to me why in concept it was a good idea to have the passenger portion of the seat bobbing up and down with the rear frame member, albeit at a reduced amount, but honestly, on a bumpy road I am sure the pillion passenger could suffer a real spinal injury, did any other bike have this arrangement?

Yes the 98ccm NSU Fox and the 125 ccm NSU Fox stroker.Later the Superfox had a sprung passenger seat.Erik
