Just had a call from a Norvin owner not a member that reads the forum to tell me there are two one owner Comets in South Australia, one did not take the lid of the engine until 92,000 miles, the owner taught at a Tech college until he retired!

Tony Rose was a private Detective, he use to pop into Vincent's at least once a week on his journeys to and from London and Scotland, he survive on Mrs Leggett's Vincent Canteen tea and Shepherd's pie.

Tim, all the Vincent Press bikes were registered in Hertfordshire in Vincent HRD name, and after press finished with them were sold of to Vincent dealers, Conways were the biggest buyers

Hi All

I have seen that there is a very nice 1949 Black Shadow coming up for sale at the upcoming Bonhams sale on Dec 2nd.

It looks top notch and that is reflected in the estimate of £80 - 120K

Can anyone confirm that as an early series C bike it is correct in having the series B type straight seat lugs on the RFM?
For that price it would need a guarantee which you do not get at auction. I bought a very similar Shadow (HRD, straight seat lugs etc) in poor cosmetic condition, all matching numbers (including
the covers) that easily cruised on 90mph while I was in the UK. Unfortunately the lower valve guides were shot so oil and smoke were dispersed. I paid £53K which gives a lot of
room for "fettling" if this bike even gets mid estimate. If you are serious about a Shadow then my advice to you John is join the club and find a well known, well used and well maintained example.
It may need some "fettling" but it will still end up cheaper for you and more satisfying for the vendor. Remember the auction mantra: buyer pays more and vendor receives less. Auction houses are like casinos; they win and you lose. There is a very nice non-matching numbers Shadow (Shadow UFM and Shadow RFM match) in Australia for sale at AUD$105,000.

OMG. Look who the vendor is. He of White Shadow fame!?!?!
was purchased by the vendor, a former treasurer of the VOC,
No, I did not use my position to further my bank account! LOL.
Of course, I may be wrong, again.

I see that the Shadow mentioned at the start of this thread is up for auction again by H and H next week.

They have billed it as a great investment bike. It sold for £119,100 in Dec 2017, so it will be interesting to see if that proves to be the case for the vendor.
