Big end journal alignment

The big-end roller material/dust, which looked like metallic paint for the Rapide which failed on the way to the Manx GP, would have been pumped from the crankcase via the scavenge pump into the oil tank and from there to the filter etc what a mess !!

Ref the above comment on the Comet, it seems its big-end has it better than a twin in two ways - more oil flow/pressure due to higher RPM and only one big end feed to supply, though I feel that the Comet engine is usually under greater stress at any given road speed.

Some articles by the way suggest that the pulses from the oil pump are largly damped out by the pressure relief valve and the oil filter - so it seems that the big-end gets a fairly smooth supply of oil and not a "pulsed" one. Anyone got any views on this please?

Matty. Having holes at 3 and 9 O'clock sounds fine as the oil does not change it's effective radius of rotation (crankshaft axis of rotation) to exit the holes meaning it will neither over or under feed. Remember, rolling emement bearing are not supplied by oil pressure as is commonly misunderstood, they are fed by centrifugal force. Proivided the crank runs true put it together and don't worry.
