I don't think you two could get much farther apart and still be on the same Island! Scotland tp Cornwall, should be able to run that in a couple of hours!

I'm just restoring one. The remains of the old cable inner were still there. It was a solid wire soldered into the plunger that slots into the cam. I've converted mine to take a normal cable. The BTH cable parts are available from Paul Norman https://racingnorton.co.uk/BTH-KD1-Comp-Magneto-Manual-Advance/Retard-Plunger-Body
