I'm just restoring one. The remains of the old cable inner were still there. It was a solid wire soldered into the plunger that slots into the cam. I've converted mine to take a normal cable. here is a sketch of a cable I removed from a PBM1 mag. Treat the dimensions with caution, but it should get you somewhere near.
