Ron, As I said, no one does it and there never seems to be a problem but... first we put on the full thickness nut which takes the load on the bottom of its threads, then we tighten the lock nut against the full nut which effectively reduces the load on the full nut threads. We had a problem many years back and the GKN bolt wizard was called in as an expert witness.

And don't bother looking where the locknuts are on mine, I use nylocs. :)
