John, it is only a Comet with "D" type fairings, why it fetched so much beats me!! Sorry Stuart's bike did not go! the market is "mad"!!

The last owner bought it in 1961 and, although he told me that that he used to ride it when he first bought it, the auction write-up suggests that he never registered it in his name. That would mean that it hasn't been legal for road use for at least the last 40years

I am sure I saw either this complete machine or parts of this machine undergoing a restoration job at the premises of Furness & Searle, Vincent engineers of Cromer near Stevenage, I am sure I remember Jack or Alf showing me a Victor transfer they had commissioned or acquired for the front mudguard cowl, it is a guess but I would say that was around 1985.
