For the first time in over twenty years I am rebuilding a Vincent from basics. I looked at this picture and thought, "have I been doing it wrong all these years"? Well, have I? The way my Rapide is set up works fine and nothing interferes with anything else and as a bonus I can lock up the rear wheel if I choose.

I don't think it matters where the cable-actuated lever is. I have always done it the other way around, which is in the Harpers drawing.

Checking in the 'Spare Parts List', paper version, I see that the arm operated by the cable is the inner arm, and the arm pulling the brake actuating rod is out-board of it.
Do I win a prize?

I think we can call it as an error. If mounted as per the ASL the cable has to go through a curve instead of being a straight pull. The brake rod also has to pull at an angle instead of more or less parallel to the torque arm.
