AMC Norton box reverse gearshift

Hello there,
it is time for me to excuse to anybody I set on a wrong path. Contrary to BSA unit models you cannot change the gearshift pattern of an AMC Norton ( i.e. Commando ) box by simply reversing the camplate as I told somebody on the forum before.
I first thought I could as it worked perfectly with by B44VS only to find a neutral between 3rd and forth when doing the same with the Norton box. After a lot of thinking and head scratching (isn't it amazing how confusing a camplate can be if you try to think how it works upside down or left to right) I finally called Pete Lovell the Norton specialist.
He also told me that my new thinking was correct and even send me a fax with a little sketch. The result is that you have to file or grind new notches into the flamecut side of the camplate. Best will be if you have two camplates that you can bolt together so it is easier to mark where the notches have to go, as they have to be made very accurate. Without a second plate as a guide simple do not think about the operation but take a deep breath and have a good look into your wallet as Norvil will sell you one for about 85 quid + happy tax.

sorry for causing any inconvenience

Bernd
