Too late its welded now. I can always try fitting seats if it fails but as noted above there is not enough material to bore into without breaking through into the port especially on the exhaust.

After nearly 20 years slumber the bike is up and running again. This is one of the very last pre-war Comets with engine number C985. It originally had an alloy head and barrel (sic), 4 gallon stainless tank, TT carb and BAPC gearbox. Sadly the tank and gearbox are in another bike but it still looks and rides nice.
