This past weekend, February 22-23, 2020, Scott Dell and David Tompkins raced at Roebling Road. It was a fast trip back from Laguna Seca. With a little more time to work on preparation, there was a lot less work to do at the track. This was good because the temperature in the mornings was hovering around freezing.

David ran a 46T rear sprocket on the rear, but seemed to be winding out the engine on the straight. Still, on Saturday he cut about 4 seconds off his lap time from last year. He had a misfire for the first time on the bike, but not running through the gears, only at the later end of the straight. He changed the rear sprocket to a 45T and did much better on Sunday by cutting an additional 3 seconds on his lap time, even though he did not get rid of the misfire. The gearing may still be a little low for Roebling. All in all, he was about a bike length behind Alex at the finish line.

There was one new modification that David used on the bike for this race. We had been discussing the Reg Bolton modification for quite a while. Carleton and I had used this modification for years with great results and I had suggested that it was a worthwhile improvement. David designed a spacer to use on the rear damper mount of the Works Performance rear coil over. David was quite happy with the improvement in handling. He felt his bike was tipping into corners effortlessly with this small addition.
